Simi Estiatorio Opens in Austin

Austin’s downtown Greek fine dining concept, Simi Estiatorio, recently opened near the corner of 6th Street and Congress on the first floor of the historic Littlefield Building. Originally announced in late 2019, their opening timeframe of Spring 2020 was delayed due to the Covid pandemic.

Managing Partner George Theodosiou is a 25-year service industry veteran having launched concepts in both Greece and New York City. Executive Chef Diego Sanchez brings his Peruvian roots, culinary training from the Art Institute of New York, and global experience to the helm of the Simi kitchen.

“I am thrilled to finally bring Simi to life after so many months of waiting and delays,” said Theodosiou. “I had a dream to combine the best Greek dishes and wines of my homeland with exceptional and attentive service in a vibrant, Greek-island like atmosphere. Simi is truly where this all comes together.”

Simi’s Executive Chef is Diego Sanchez, is the former head chef of Bahamian resort, Baha Mar. Diego spent much of his childhood and teenage years in his birthplace, Lima, Peru. He received his Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management training from the Art Institute of New York City. Growing up, food was always the centerpiece of his family and he’s incorporated some of the flavors and customs of his childhood into his ever-evolving style - which is all about making fresh, sustainable ingredients and sumptuous flavors the star of each dish.

Theodosiou wanted abundant, fresh seafood and modern interpretations of Greek and Mediterranean flavors on the Simi menu and a wine and cocktail offering selected to perfectly complement the food.  In the name of creating an authentic experience, fresh fish from the Mediterranean will be flown in weekly, salads will be served in their traditional form and guests can choose from one of the thirteen Greek wines in Simi’s selection. The menu features a wide variety of mezethes, raw bar choices, and entrees for carnivores and seafood lovers alike.

Simi Estiatorio brings a fresh and elevated take on Greek food, wine and cocktails to downtown Austin. Located at 601 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701, guests can expect an abundance of delicious Greek food and contagious energy seven days a week. Valet service will be offered for guests. The restaurant will officially begin dinner service Friday, May 7. Dinner reservations will open April 29 and can be secured via OpenTable or over the phone by calling (512) 886-0999.

Simi Estiatorio will announce plans for lunch and brunch service in the coming weeks.
